We want you to take advantage of being one of the first to arrive and so the first place we will see inside the archeological site is the KUKULKAN CASTLE. We want you to have an intimate encounter with the pyramid and be able to take MAGNIFICIENT PICTURES without people. You will feel that the archaeological site was open exclusively for you. Take as many selfies as you like and your guide will also take many pictures of you – we are sure that one of these pictures will be your next profile picture, a photo with two wonders: you and Chichen Itza.

Remember that EVERYTHING is DONE at YOUR PACE and you can stay in the site as long as you want. Your guide, who is fluent in ENGLISH and certified by the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History), will give you an extensive narrative about the site and the Mayan culture and most importantly he will answer ALL your questions. Our guides love deep, complex and funny conversations so feel free to ask him anything you want.

The archeological site of Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988 and one of the SEVEN WONDERS of the modern world since 2007. The important things to see in Chichen Itza are: 1) The temple of Kukulkan, 2) The Temple of the Warriors, 3) The temple of the Skulls, 4) The Sacred Cenote, 5) The main Ball Court, 6) The Observatory and 7) La Iglesia. Please note that around 10.30 am it start getting hot so please take several bottles of water with you and keep drinking water to STAY HYDRATED.

LUNCH AT MAYALAND HOTEL

For lunch, we have chosen the MAYALAND HOTEL buffet, one of the BEST buffets in the region and an ICONIC hotel that is part of the modern history of Chichen Itza and the PENINSULA of YUCATAN. The hotel was built in 1923 by the Barbachano family in what today comprises the archeological site of Chichen Itza and played a crucial role in the exploration and development of the archeological site as we know it today. The hotel has been house to ROYALS, MONARCHS and CELEBRITIES and due to its history, amazing gardens, architecture and special views it makes a GREAT PLACE for lunch.

The buffet OPENS at 12:00 pm (noon). So, when you are ready exploring Chichen Itza, all you need to do is walk back to the entrance and the restaurant is only a 5 minutes’ walk from there. If you arrive before, you can use the extra time to rest and admire the beautiful gardens of the hotel.

The buffet offers MEXICAN food, YUCATEC food, MAYAN food and INTERNATIONAL food. If you are VEGETARIAN, don’t worry, there is a very good salad bar and specialties like pasta, pizza, rise, beans, grilled vegetables and great fresh fruit. The best part of the buffet is the HANDMADE TORTILLAS, so please don’t forget to try them and enjoy a great taco!

The food is included in the tour but unfortunately the drinks during the buffet are not (this is the only thing that is not included in the tour). The bottles of water that we give cannot be used inside.

DEEP CENOTE

After lunch we want that you RELAX and COOL DOWN and the best way to do that is inside of a wonderful Cenote. The Mayas believe that Cenotes are SACRED PLACES with MAGICAL POWERS and their cold crystal-clear water will make you feel like in a spa. Cenotes are UNIQUE to the Peninsula of Yucatan; they were formed circa 55 million years ago and there are several types. The region of Chichen Itza is around 30 meters (90 feet) above sea level and it has 2 types of Cenotes 1) deep cylinder sinkholes and 2) big caves. The Cenote we currently go to (and believe us we are constantly looking for the best) is Hacienda OXMAN. This Cenote is a DEEP CYLINDER sinkhole. We love this place because the setting and the BLUE COLOR of the water when the sunlight enters are amazing. Also, this Cenote is LESS crowded and if we arrive early you will be able to enjoy this place almost by yourself and take the BEST photos.

The Hacienda has changing rooms so please don’t forget to bring your SWIMSUIT and a TOWEL. It is important to know that to enjoy this beautiful place, we will need to go down around 90 steps (the water is at sea level because ALL Cenotes are connected through UNDERGROUND RIVERS that end up in the sea). To enter the water, you can calmly walk the final steps or, if you are more ADVENTUROUS, you can jump from a rope like Tarzan. If you jump, ask your local expert to take a SLOW-MOTION video, you will LOVE it!! Swimming in the Cenote is safe but in case you need, we always bring our own life jackets, they are CLEANED and DISINFECTED every day. The time at the Cenote is free, we will stay in the Cenote AS LONG AS YOU WANT, you tell us when to leave.

Hacienda OXMAN is 5 minutes from Mayaland Hotel. To get there we need to take the regular road and we will pass several small VIALLAGES and COMMUNITIES so you will get to see the rural side of Yucatan State and some of the local life. After lunch you will also feel a bit tired so this can also be a good opportunity for a short nap.

COLONIAL TOWN OF VALLADOLID

5 minutes away from Hacienda OXMAN is the COLONIAL town of VALLADOLID. Founded in 1543 AC, one of the oldest cities in YUCATAN, Valladolid is a great place to wonder. Start your tour walking the charming street of Calzada de los Frailes with its beautiful Spanish architecture, boutique stores and small cafes. At the end of the street you will arrive at the Ex Convento de San Bernardino de Siena, admire this beautiful monastery and take incredible pictures. From here, your local expert will take you to the main square or zocalo. We recommend having an ice cream, visiting the main cathedral and exploring the small streets next by with its amazing MEXICAN COLORS and local life. If you are looking for LOCAL HANDCRAFTS, there are little shops or small markets where you can find beautiful things.

Is possible that after the cenote you are tired. If this is the case and you don’t want to walk in Valladolid is no problem, just ask your local expert to drive you through the town and show you these attractions from the comfort of the van.

TRAVELING BACK

When you are ready admiring Valladolid we will head back to the hotel or your Airbnb. For the ride back we will take the TOLL HIGHWAY. If you are staying in PLAYA DEL CARMEN, the ride is 1.5 hours and if you are in CANCUN consider 1 hour and 45 mins. If you are staying in TULUM, we take the regular road that passes next to the archeological site of Coba and it takes around 1.5 hours.

The tour was planned to be back in your hotel or Airbnb at 17:15 pm but since everything is done at your pace the exact time of the return will depend on you. Also please note that this is your private tour and so you have the FLEXIBILITY to go back to the hotel at any point or skip any activity you don’t want to do.
