This private tour is called WAKE UP THE TURTLES & VISIT TULUM because we take you to experience an early visit to snorkel with the turtles and then shown you the only Mayan ruins next to the Caribbean Sea. 

Your private guide will make you feel SAFE and PROTECTED at ALL TIMES, if you don’t know how to snorkel he will teach you and even if you are a pro he will give you the best tips to make your experience better – you can also check our article “Snorkel Tips for Beginners” in our blog. In addition, our snorkel expert is equipped with a water rattle that improves the guide-tourist aquatic communication, he also carries a floater in order to assist you if you are having difficulties, if you are tired or if you want to look around more relaxed, we call it the “Taxi“. 

To guarantee the best snorkeling experience we use PROFESSIONAL SNORKEL EQUIPMENT. The masks that we use have NO FOGGING and are LEAK PROVE. The tube has a special vent that does not allow water to come in and our vests have the right design and size. It is important to emphasize that all our equipment is DEEP CLEANED and SANITIZED every day. We know that the right equipment is key to a great experience and it will allow you to only focus on ENJOYING and HAVING FUN. 

If you wear glasses, don’t worry, we have GRADUATED MASKS, when booking indicate your prescription number level and we will bring the right mask for you.

SWIM WITH THE TURTLES

The name of Akumal comes from the Mayan, place of the turtles. This bay is FAMOUS for being the home of three different species of turtles: loggerhead, green and hawksbill. In 2017, the federal government with the local government and private iniciatives, created the “Protection program of the refugy area of Akumal Bay”. This program has the objective to PRESERVE the flora and fauna of the destination through research, Ambiental education and by controlling the entrance to the area. 

We want to arrive a little early to prepare and give you the snorkeling equipment before entering the water. After that, your private guide and your on-site guide will let you know the guidelines of the protection program to fully enjoy the experience. 

Turtles are swimming in the sea a few meters from the beach. Once you are ready, your guides will take you into the sea where you will find the turtles in their NATURAL habitat. 

The Park has restrooms and changing rooms so please don’t forget to bring your SWIMSUIT, TOWEL and dry clothes so that you can change at the end. By regulation, the time to swim with the turtles is around 60 minutes. Due to the protection program, we are not allowed to stay longer inside the sea, but you can stay enjoying this beautiful beach the time you want.

ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE OF TULUM

After Akumal, we will be headed to Tulum. This is the only Mayan ruins in front of the Caribbean Sea and the closest to Tulum, a perfect option for those who want to be DAZZLED by an incomparable scenery of Mayan culture, without traveling long distances.

Its old name, Zama, means “dawn”, and to honor its name we will arrive at 9.45 a.m., without people and at opening hour which is the best way to visit this ancient walled city. Due to COVID, the opening hour is at 9.00 a.m..

Its current name, Tulum, means “between walls”, so literally your guide will open the doors of these barriers to contemplate the immensity of the CARIBBEAN SEA, where the water flashes in 7 shades of blue that you will see from the viewpoints of the citadel. This is the perfect place to take a picture and share with your friends the beauty of Mexico and its turquoise sea. 

Remember that EVERYTHING is DONE at YOUR PACE and you can stay in the site as long as you want. Your guide, who is fluent in ENGLISH and certified by the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History), will give you an extensive narrative about the site and the Mayan culture and most importantly he will answer ALL your questions. Our guides love deep, complex and funny conversations so feel free to ask him anything you want.

MEXICAN BRUNCH (OPTIONAL)

After an active morning you will have a BIG appetite and if you want we can take you to eat at a local AUTHENTIC restaurant in Tulum, this simple place will immerse you in the flavors of Mexico. Fresh fruit, enchiladas, tacos de guisado or any other food: your choice. If you don’t want to visit a restaurant, no problem; we will take you back to your hotel or Airbnb as fast as possible so you can continue enjoying the rest of your day in the pool or in the beach.

You can decide if you want to go for lunch at any moment (in advance or on the same day). We will adjust the schedule to what is best for you.

TRAVELING BACK

This private tour was planned so that you arrive at brunch at noon in Tulum, or if you want we can skip brunch and arrive at your hotel around midday. Since everything is done at your pace the exact time of the return will depend on you. Also please note that this is your private tour and so you have the FLEXIBILITY to go back to the hotel at any point or skip any activity you don’t want to do. 

If you decide to have brunch, please consider from 1 hour to 1.5 hours more. You should be arriving in your hotel or Airbnb between 13.00 p.m. and 13.30 p.m..
