WHALE SHARK PRIVATE TOUR from Playa del Carmen

On the way to the site and during the tour your private local expert will tell you several stories about MEXICO, the Riviera Maya, Mexican traditions, local life and how the Peninsula of Yucatan was created. Your local expert will answer ALL your questions, he will also give you space to relax and, if you prefer, to sleep during these 60 minutes ride.

FINDING AND SWIMMING WITH THE WHALE SHARK

This adventure was PLANNED by our LOCAL EXPERTS, local detectives that go the extra mile to create the perfect itinerary. The Whale Shark is the largest known fish (it can reach up to 18 meters or 62 feet). Swimming with this majestic animal is a UNIQUE and SUBLIME experience and we want you to have the BEST and most AUTHENTIC day.

The adventure start in a double motor boat with excellent speed to arrive as quick as possible on the natural reserve. Finding the first Whale Shark will take between 60 minutes. While our captain is searching our local expert will tell you everything you need to know about this magnificent animal and the rules that have been set by the authorities while you are in the water. We will also give you professional snorkel equipment and safety measures.

Suddenly you will hear “There!!! There!!!”, our captain pointing to the horizon, “We did it. We have found the first family of Whale Sharks!” You will move to the front of the boat to see the sharks. At this point your heart is pumping and you will feel the rush. This is an amazing moment, you will get excited, prepare your camera, deep inside you will get nervous and you will ask yourself if you really want to jump or not. But of course you will!

Remember that at this point the most important thing is to take care of the Whale Shark, so we will turn of the motors right before reaching them. This is the moment of truth!! You will jump in pairs, and only 2 people at the same time. You can stay in the water between 10 and 20 minutes, we don’t rush you and the time will depending on your condition. Depending on your group size you can jump 2 or 3 times if you want. At My Quest Concierge we don’t limit the time nor the times that you can jump. We want to arrive early so that you are one of the first in the water, Whale Sharks will be swimming everywhere, so you might be focused in one and suddenly you realize there is another one next to you or you look down and you see a Stingray crossing. And if we are lucky you will be swimming in the middle of several Whale Sharks. The whale shark is huge and you will be in the middle of the sea, but you should not fear, Whale Sharks feed themselves from plankton, they are very noble and pose no threat. They will take care of you and they will avoid colliding with you, it will be like dancing in the sea, let yourself go and enjoy this glorious moment.

Also, you private guide will make you feel SAFE and PROTECTED at ALL TIMES. To guarantee the best experience we use PROFESSIONAL SNORKEL EQUIPMENT. The masks that we use have NO FOGGING and are LEAK PROVE. The tube has a special vent that does not allow water to come in and our vests have the right design and size. The rights fins will also allow you to keep pace with the Whale Shark, we don’t want you to stay behind, we want you to swim alongside not behind :). It is important to emphasize that all our equipment is DEEP CLEANED and SANITIZED every day. We know that the right equipment is key to a great experience and it will allow you to only focus on ENJOYING and HAVING FUN.

ISLA CHE & SNORKELLING

The tour is not over. Once you are ready, and you start getting hungry, we will start our driving to Isla Mujeres. If you are not tired, on the way we can do a small snorkeling tour. The sea close to Isla Che is not that deep, the color of the water has a unique blue and you can explore some coral reef. This stop is complementary.

LUNCH

After a very active day you will have a big appetite and we hope you are ready to eat in the Caribbean, and when we say in the Caribbean we literally mean in the water of the Caribbean. The boat will stop at a place called North Beach in Isla Mujeres, a very paradisiacal beach with crystal clear water. While you relax in this beautiful place the captain and the sailor, who are local fishmen, will prepare the most authentic ceviche of your life, is not only the flavor and freshness but also the atmosphere of the place, the ceviche will be served in the sea, the water reaches no higher than your waist and we will use a floating table. Close your eyes and imagine this: turquoise blue water, ceviche, your friends and/or family, the sun, the beach and your favorite drink (if you would like to have a specific drink please write to us and let us know).

If for some reason we don’t find Whale Sharks during your private tour, we will bring you back a second time totally free (as long as there are no bad weather conditions or the government suspends the activities).

During the Whale Shark season (June to August, for exact dates please contact us), we are constantly measuring the weather conditions to maximize the chances of finding the Whale Shark. One day before you tour you will receive an email or a call from our local experts to tell you if it is advisable to cancel or continue with the reservation, if our local experts recommends not to do the tour due to low chances of seeing the Whale Sharks but you still want to go, your second opportunity insurance will not apply. The insurance only applies when we advise to do the tour.

TRAVELING BACK

After lunch we will sail back to Punta Sam. From Isla Mujeres it takes around 40 minutes to reach the dock. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful view.

The last part of the tour is to take you straight back to your hotel or your Airbnb. For the ride back we will take the HIGHWAY. From Punta Sam to Playa, the ride is 60 minutes. This private tour was design to finish at 14.30 p.m..

Since everything is done at your pace the exact time of the return will depend on you. Also please note that this is your private tour and so you have the FLEXIBILITY to go back at any point or skip any activity you don’t want to do.
