CHICHEN ITZA & COBAPRIVATE TOUR from Cancun

On the way to the site your local expert will tell you several stories about MEXICO, the Peninsula of Yucatan, the Riviera Maya, Mexican traditions, local life, he will also give you a broad explanation of the Mayan culture so that when you are at the ruins, you can focus more on architecture and specific facts of the ancient city of Chichen Itza. Your local expert will answer ALL your questions, he will also give you space to relax and, if you prefer, to sleep during this 2-hour 15 minutes ride.

CHICHEN ITZA

We want you to take advantage of being one of the first to arrive in CHICHEN ITZA so the first place we will see inside the archeological site is the KUKULKAN CASTLE. We want you to have an intimate encounter with the pyramid and be able to take MAGNIFICIENT PICTURES without people. You will feel that the archaeological site was open exclusively for you. Take as many selfies as you like and your guide will also take many pictures of you – we are sure that one of these pictures will be your next profile picture, a photo with two wonders: you and Chichen Itza.

Remember that EVERYTHING is DONE at YOUR PACE and you can stay in the site as long as you want. Your guide, who is fluent in ENGLISH and certified by the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History), will give you an extensive narrative about the site and the Mayan culture and most importantly he will answer ALL your questions. Our guides love deep, complex and funny conversations so feel free to ask him anything you want.

The archeological site of Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988 and one of the SEVEN WONDERS of the modern world since 2007. The important things to see in Chichen Itza are: 1) The temple of Kukulkan, 2) The Temple of the Warriors, 3) The temple of the Skulls, 4) The Sacred Cenote, 5) The main Ball Court, 6) The Observatory and 7) La Iglesia. Please note that around 10.30 am it start getting hot so please take several bottles of water with you and keep drinking water to STAY HYDRATED.

LUNCH AT VALLADOLID

30 minutes away from Chichen Itza is the COLONIAL town of VALLADOLID. Founded in 1543 AC, one of the oldest cities in YUCATAN, Valladolid is a great place to wonder. On our way to the restaurant, we will drive through the old town for you to admire. 

Currently, due to COVID, the last entrance to Coba is at 15.00 p.m. so we might need to adjust the time for lunch. To be efficient and optimize time, your guide will call the restaurant in advance to order what you would like to eat. On the way to Valladolid, he will explain the menu and give you recommendations depending on what you want to taste. If you are VEGETARIAN, don’t worry, only let us know so we can give you the right options. The food is included in the tour but drinks are not (this is the only thing that is not included in the tour). 

You and your guide will decide the time you have for lunch. If your visit in Chichen Itza is short you will have time to sit at the restaurant and have lunch (if you are hungry). But if your visit to Chichen Itza is longer, he might recommend to take the food to go and enjoy it at the cenote or during the ride to Coba. Independent of the option we want to do things without rush.

DEEP CENOTE

Before arriving in Coba we want that you RELAX and COOL DOWN and the best way to do that is inside of a wonderful Cenote. The Mayas believe that Cenotes are SACRED PLACES with MAGICAL POWERS and their cold crystal-clear water will make you feel like in a spa. Cenotes are UNIQUE to the Peninsula of Yucatan; they were formed circa 55 million years ago and there are several types. The region of Chichen Itza is around 30 meters (90 feet) above sea level and it has 2 types of Cenotes 1) deep cylinder sinkholes and 2) big caves. The Cenote we choose for this private tour (and believe us we are constantly looking for the best) is Hacienda CHUKUM. This Cenote is SEMI CLOSED with a hole on top where the light of the sun enters. We love this place because the setting and the BLUE COLOR of the water when the sunlight enters is amazing. Also, the Cenote has several platforms where you can jump and a zipline to have fun. This Cenote is LESS crowded and if we arrive early you will be able to enjoy this place almost by yourself and take the BEST photos.

The Hacienda has changing rooms so please don’t forget to bring your SWIMSUIT and TOWELs. It is important to know that to enjoy this beautiful place, we will need to go down around 80 steps (the water is at sea level because ALL Cenotes are connected through UNDERGROUND RIVERS that end up in the sea). To enter the water, you can calmly walk the final steps. Swimming in the Cenote is safe but in case you need, we always bring our own life jackets, they are CLEANED and DISINFECTED every day. 

Hacienda CHUKUM is circa 20 minutes from Valladolid. To get there we need to take the regular road and we will pass several small VIALLAGES and COMMUNITIES so you will get to see the rural side of Yucatan State and some of the local life. 

If you decide to have lunch here, there is a designated area for you to enjoy your lunch surrounded by the beautiful architecture of this Hacienda.

ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE COBA

After the Cenote we start our 40 minutes ride to Coba. During this time, you can continue having a great conversation with your guide or if you prefer, you can take advantage of the road and sleep a little. 

We should arrive in Coba at 14.45 p.m.. We love this site because it’s the only one in the Riviera Maya in which you can ride a bike and truly FEEL and EXPLORE the jungle. Coba is an opportunity to reconnect yourself with NATURE. In order to reach the main pyramid, you will need to cross 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) of fresh jungle. Bike, walk or use a Mayan tricycle with driver (what is locally called a Mayan limousine) through the jungle is a great adventure. The breeze and smell of the jungle, the green color of the trees, the sing of birds and the sight of wild animals will make you feel FREE and in PEACE. 

In Coba you will encounter Mayan steles, traditional ball game courts and small Mayan roads that will enchant you. At the end of the crossing you will see the pyramid of Nohoch Mul – the tallest in the Yucatan Peninsula. Park your bike, or step down of your limousine and admire the summit. Take your time to RECHARGE your ENERGY and refresh (it’s important to drink a lot of water). When you are ready start your way back through the jungle, at your rhythm. 

TRAVELING BACK

When you are ready we will head back to the hotel or your Airbnb. For the ride back we will take the regular road to Tulum and the HIGHWAY to Cancun. From Coba to Playa Mujeres, Cancun or Puerto Morelos consider 2 hour and 45 mins.

This private tour was planned to be back in your hotel or Airbnb at 19.00 p.m. but since everything is done at your pace the exact time of the return will depend on you. Also please note that this is your private tour and so you have the FLEXIBILITY to go back to the hotel at any point or skip any activity you don’t want to do.
